Newly released campaign finance disclosures show that John Pantazopoulos raised more than any other city councillor candidate in 2024 — and he did it in just one week.
Candidates who received financial contributions in the past year needed to submit a disclosure statement by today, as required under Alberta's election laws.
With the municipal election not until October 2025, the strong early support signals growing momentum for Pantazopoulos’ campaign and reinforces his commitment to working for Calgarians.
“People are stepping up because they want change,” said Pantazopoulos. “Calgarians expect leadership that makes smart, accountable decisions — just like any well-run business.
"That means managing the city's finances responsibly, investing in long-term success without waste, and fostering safe, thriving communities. Throughout my career, I’ve built and led organizations with these principles, and that’s exactly the approach I’ll bring to City Hall.”
Recent changes to municipal fundraising rules have allowed candidates to raise more money in the year before an election, making this disclosure period a key indicator of early campaign viability. Unlike candidates affiliated with municipal parties, whose fundraising totals are not publicly disclosed, Pantazopoulos’ numbers reflect direct support for him as an independent candidate.
“Our numbers are public for everyone to see — our campaign is built on direct support from the community,” Pantazopoulos said. “I believe transparency matters.
“I’m proud of the support we’ve built, and I’ll always be accountable to the people of Calgary."
With many months to go until the October 2025 election, Pantazopoulos’ campaign continues to build support.
